I'm Mahamoud — a documentary and editorial photographer based in Ottawa, shooting weddings, couples, and events across Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, and wherever the work takes me.
What started as a high school project turned into four years of professional work built entirely on word-of-mouth. My approach is photojournalistic at its core — I work the room, document the day as it actually unfolds, and stay out of the way. When it's time for portraits, I shift into a loose editorial style: intentional framing, cinematic light, images that feel composed without feeling staged.
My Somali-Canadian roots taught me what a real celebration looks like — loud rooms, full tables, the kind of energy you can't manufacture. I don't create moments. I just make sure none of them get missed.

This is the one most couples end up choosing. Eight hours covers getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour, and well into the reception — basically the whole story without any gaps. I'll be there for the quiet moment before you walk down the aisle and still there when the dance floor is packed. This is how the full day gets documented.
For the weddings where nothing gets left out. Ten hours means I'm there from the very first getting-ready moment to the grand exit. Built for large weddings, multi-location days, and couples who want absolutely complete coverage of every chapter.

For weddings, the earlier the better — 6 to 12 months out is ideal, especially for summer and fall dates. Those weekends go fast. For portraits or smaller events, a few weeks notice usually works fine.
I shoot documentary-style — mostly candid, real moments, with some light direction when needed. Editing-wise I go for rich tones and a cinematic look. Nothing trendy that'll look dated in a few years.
Depends on the package — Engagement & Couples comes with 25+, Essential with 200+, Signature with 300+, and Premium with 400+. For full weddings it often runs higher depending on how much is happening throughout the day.
I turn galleries around faster than most — you won't be waiting months. The exact timeline depends on the size of the shoot, but I'll always give you a clear timeframe upfront.
Yes — I shoot in Toronto and Montreal regularly, and I'm open to destination weddings anywhere in Canada. Travel to Toronto and Montreal can be added to any package. Just ask about pricing.
Rain honestly makes for some of the best photos — moody, dramatic, different. I've shot plenty of rainy days and always come prepared. We'll work with it.
A 50% retainer holds your date, with the remainder due 2 weeks before the event. If something comes up and you need to cancel, reach out — I'll always try to work something out.
Most people say this. Honestly, by the end of the shoot they forget I'm even there. I keep things low-key, give easy direction, and let things happen naturally. It usually works out just fine.
